This Saturday we visited The Mercado Da Ribeira in Lisbon. It is situated in a very charming building, 5 minutes walk away from the Turzain Chiado Flat.
If you are heading from Cascais , the Ocean View I & Ocean View II flats of Turzain are a 5 minute bus ride (the bus stop is exactly opposite the apartment building) down to the Cascais Station. From there you take the train to Cais de Sodre in Lisbon. It’s a very pleasant and scenic route of 25 minute train ride by the Ocean & then the river. Once at Cais de Sodre, you just cross the street to the Market.
Tip: It will be a great idea to take a wheeled carrier bag for your purchases.
The market boasts a great display of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a good display of meat and a great selection of fresh fish at good prices. Flowers, Piri Piri (dried & fresh hot pepper), and other items are available too.
Tip: While you’re there, ask for the help and advice from the expert lady fishmongers on different ways to prepare the different types of fish.
Several spaces are filled with Different types of onions , garlic and hot peppers (Piri Piri) to spice up your dish.
Most great chefs of Lisbon frequent the market looking for fish to prepare and serve.
The area boasts a few cafes and typical restaurants scattered around and more are opening up soon.
Tip: We understood that on the upper floor of the Mercado, ballroom dancing goes on every Thursday & Friday afternoon, worth a try for fun.
We also wanted to share with you more photos we took, enjoy.
